HOUSTON — Positioned as a way for franchised or new independent dealers to learn about the market, the National Alliance of Buy-Here Pay-Here Dealers plans to hold a BHPH boot camp in Monroe, N.C., a suburb of Charlotte, on Aug. 18 and 19.

NABD officials highlighted the boot camp will provide hands-on training for attendees who are entering the industry and those who have limited or no experience. All of the training sessions will be held at the facilities of iCars, which is owned and operated by Ingram Walters and is one of the nation's successful BHPH stores.

"This boot camp will allow attendees to actually see and learn about the BHPH best practices at the same time," explained NABD founder Ken Shilson.

"We have constructed a comprehensive agenda which will address all of the key financial and operational aspects of running a successful BHPH business," Shilson continued.

All training sessions will be conducted by Walters and Shilson, who have conducted annual NABD's BHPH conferences for 14 years.

They believe the boot camp is ideally suited for franchised dealers who wish to diversify into the BHPH industry or for independent dealers who wish to avoid the fatal pitfalls of a BHPH start-up.

Attendees at this two-day event will receive a comprehensive procedures manual, an employee handbook, projection software and other valuable reference materials.

"A modest investment of time and money can make attendees millions of dollars," Shilson declared.

Attendance will be limited to a maximum of approximately 10 dealerships, and each dealership is asked to bring one or two people.

NABD said attendees living outside of North Carolina should plan to fly into Charlotte and make a short drive to Monroe where convenient hotel accommodations are available.

The alliance also announced that it will again hold an East Coast National BHPH Conference in Atlanta on Oct. 21–23.

Shilson pointed out the same event last year had more than 800 attendees and was held at the same location in partnership with the Georgia Independent Dealers Association (GIADA).
